"WZZA Radio is proud to present our annual Sickle Cell Radiothon to benefit the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation. We have for many years made it a point to educate our listeners about health issues which disproportionately affect people of color, but this particular cause has long been close to our hearts. Our very own Leonard Skipworth, who can be heard Sunday mornings with the best in gospel music, lost his brother Glenn Allen Skipworth to Sickle Cell Anemia. When we were approached in 2004 by the Foundation, they explained that much of their state funding had been cut, creating a desperate situation for patients suffering from Sickle Cell. That year, and each year since then, WZZA Radio has joined with them to encourage those in our community to give from their hearts. With the help of our listeners, we have been blessed to raise approximately $10,000.00 annually to assist with the expenses faced by Sickle Cell patients. We could not do it without our listeners and supports, and we are grateful. WZZA would like to thank each person who has given, no matter what the amount, to this very worthy cause."
